Douglas - No, but you miss a trick if you don't make it to scale. I only model enough so I can be confident in the carving, in particular the first big cuts. I find I've stopped looking at it as soon as the bosting in is well under way.

Has the model always got to be the same size as the wood? Just wondering because if one if carving a beyond life size carving, that might need loads of clay!
