Longbent Gouges

Whether or not you need a longbent gouge really depends on the carving. Mostly this will mean you are working with long, slow curves because, once you need depth, you are looking at shortbent tools.

Don't feel you must have longbent gouges to complete some idea of a carving 'kit'. As with other unusual tools, such as backbents, buy them on the basis of need.

This lesson looks at what they are, what they do and how to sharpen them.

Jeff- I'm afraid not, and very unlikely to either. The longbent is quite a specialist tool, which might be a surprise to you. I would say that's one of the least used tools in my arsenal, used much less that backbents even. With a limited inventory, we'd see Auriou making spoonbents first. - which they don't, yet.
