9 Tail

You can carve feathers on the back if you want. In this carving, with this wood, I felt the sculptural quality of the form strongly and decided to let the figuring do the work on the back and tail.

Carving the log on which the owl sits into 'impressionistic' bark-like was great fun. Sometimes free, even anarchic, carving works better than precise.
