3 First Pass - part 1

This is probably the most important stage of the carving: Orientating the wood to the model; lining up the model with the block.

Why so important? It's the big picture. We need to get that right so that everything else, all the forms that follow, sit in the right place and 'articulate' convincingly. You need to strongly visualise and, of course with this your model helps enormously.

Netanel - Just a simple modelling (ceramic) clay, which you can get from potters' suppliers. I'm not firing the model. When I'm done with it, I squidge up the clay and put in a sealed tub for next time...

Hi what kind of clay do you use ?
is it harden expose to air or need to ceramic oven .
