2 Lining in

Lining in is a carver's way of saying 'outlining'. Lining in protects the subject from damage when the background is being removed and also makes easier the 'setting in' we do later.

Depth is important: you want to aim your groove just above the level of your desired final surface. In this case, my depth is about 1/4in. 5mm.
