We love showcasing our members carvings; after all, getting people to carve is what Woodcarving Workshops is all about! In the gallery you’ll see a wide range of carvings, from novice to advanced; each one the result of time and effort, inspiration and dedication. We value them all!

Whale and Wave

Project Owner: Richard Hellman
Type of Wood: Walnut on Cherry
Finish: Shellac, Danish Oil, Wax, water urethane
Dimensions: 9" x 4" x 8"

Description:

Inspired by a project by Andrew Thomas in his fabulous book, "Learning to Carve in the Round". I love to incorporate the figure of the wood into the design of the whole piece. This was challenging getting the creases in the whales skin and handling the fins and features.
