Description:

I have been carving off and on for several years but most diligently for the past 2-3. In addition to Chris’ excellent instruction via books and videos I have derived a good deal of inspiration and encouragement from Frederick Wilbur’s books on classical carving and particularly his Decorative Woodcarving Accessories for the Home. I particularly enjoy carving cherry because its subtle figure is neither absent nor overwhelming, It does, however require abrasives to free wide areas of distracting small blemishes. The inspiration for this piece came from an a fin-de-siècle item offered for sale on the internet.
