Description:

This is the biggest carving I've attempted so far and the first time I've joined blocks of lime together, (8 blocks in this carving). I glued most of them but also added dowels to the lower legs to give them more strength. By waiting until later in the project to attach the lower legs as it gave me easier access to carve other areas, and the pre-drilled dowels ensured that the alignment didn't change. I painted the body with gesso primarily to disguise the different joined blocks but I also liked the way it provided a clear contrast between the two creatures.
