House sign

Project Owner: Paul Willison
Type of Wood: Pine
Finish: Acrylic paint and clear varnish
Dimensions: 21 x 30 x 4cm

Description:

This is my first ever attempt at carving. It was a house sign for our new home when we moved last year. The design was by my partner and is a slight nod to Clarice Cliff. We are fortunate enough to have a sunny south facing garden with trees so it encorporates both. The wood was a scaffold plank I'd retrieved from a reservoir so was well weathered. What I now know is described as levelling was done with a rotary tool. The setting in done with a cheap set of tools from Hobbycraft. I'm very pleased with the result but an inordinate amount of time was spent finishing with sandpaper. Discovering these workshops and learning to carve straight from the chisel has been a godsend!

This project was done by a carver with less than 12 months experience.
