10 Backcutting

Backcutting is usually a lot easier than undercutting; you can more clearly see what you doing and you are usually carving into fresh air, not creating a junction.

The downside is that you are likely to be working with a weaker structure, giving it lightness; so you need to be sure that you properly support any part on which you are putting pressure.
