1 Introduction

Oak leaves and acorns are a classic subject for carving and you can happily apply this little cluster to the top of a mirror, fire surround or other bit of furniture. On their own they look lovely, especially applied to a wood of contrasting colour, but if you display a pair, don't forget to mirror the design: right and left handed.

I've made these more or less life size, from 1 inch (25 mm) thick Oak - what else?! The oak leaves are 'stylized', their appearance affected by the material from which they are made, and what I wanted to achieve here is fullness. It may be true that in real life oak leaves are flat but... this isn't a cluster of oak leaves; it's a woodcarving. We have artistic license rights.
