This is my first carving. What a learning curve. Developing strength and motor control in brand new motions, alongside knowledge of the materials, and the tools, is one steep climb. Its not only exhilarating, its exhausting. Red oak has the undesirable characteristic of hollow fibers. Crumbles and cave-ins and breakage drove this design on the fly, but eventually, I think I reached enough parity between design and problems to STOP. I'm very much looking forward to the next project, with this one behind me. This will be given as a wedding gift. Mandarin ducks are emblematic of life-long fidelity. The font is Sumdumgoi.
This project was done by a carver with less than 12 months experience.
