Description:

Carving for 20 months now, this is my 3rd commission. The walnut for the bust, spalted maple for the base, and soft maple for the ribbon were all new woods to me. I loved working with the walnut best of all, and I learned doing a representative carving of a clients dog is much more a challenge than a dog in general! The base was a mix of solid and punky wood that was stabilized with grain filler, and the soft maple seemed like it would be difficult to work, but was quite nice.
