Dimensions: 220 x 270 mm
Description:
I’ve been carving for several years. This piece, based on the famous painting by Vermeer, was quite challenging, but it helped to have a maquette prepared beforehand. I’ve been wanting to do something along these lines for quite a while, as I’m interested in faces and portraits. The face is lightly sanded to give the very smooth face of a young girl, whilst the rest of the carving is ‘from the chisel’ . The whole is finished in microcrystalline wax polish to avoid the yellowing that can occur with lime wood. I looked for a contrasting wood for for a background, this is sanded and finished in danish oil.
