We love showcasing our members carvings; after all, getting people to carve is what Woodcarving Workshops is all about! In the gallery you’ll see a wide range of carvings, from novice to advanced; each one the result of time and effort, inspiration and dedication. We value them all!

Type of Wood: scrap beech and sapele
Dimensions: chess board - 350mm x 350mm
Challenged to carve a chess board, I drew some inspiration from the Isle of Lewis chess men. The beech was reasonable to carve but the sapele (if that is what it is) was more difficult as it splintered easily at these small dimensions. The water-based varnish was a mistake as it left bubbles within the hardened varnish.
